Dr. Oguzhan Murat

Dr. Oguzhan Murat is an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute, University of Oxford. His research focuses on experimental and computational thermofluids, particularly turbomachinery aerodynamics and heat transfer, turbulence, flow control, and energy and propulsion systems.
He received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Nigde University and subsequently completed an M.Sc. in Thermal Power and Fluid Engineering at the University of Manchester with Distinction, where his work on large-eddy simulation of heat-exchanger flows received the Best Dissertation Award.
Dr. Murat earned his D.Phil. in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, where his research, supported by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), focused on the thermofluid behaviour of power-generation turbines during transient and shutdown operation. His work combined the design and commissioning of a novel experimental facility with high-fidelity large-eddy simulations to investigate mixed convection, turbulence, heat transfer, and the effects of realistic turbomachinery surface roughness.
He later joined the von Karman Institute (VKI) for Fluid Dynamics as a technical leader and project manager on a research programme funded by Safran Aircraft Engines. At VKI, he worked on aerodynamic performance enhancement in low-pressure turbines, including advanced end-wall concepts and the development and commissioning of an experimental wind-tunnel facility.
In Fall 2023, Dr. Murat joined Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University as Assistant Professor of Aerospace Engineering where he established AEROFLARE Research Group. At AEROFLARE, Dr. Murat leads research combining high-fidelity CFD, conventional numerical methods, and experimental fluid mechanics. His current interests include turbomachinery aerodynamics and heat transfer, turbulence modelling, surface-roughness effects, novel end-wall geometries, active and passive flow control, propulsion systems, and thermofluid challenges associated with flexible and low-carbon power generation.
